Dedicated Web Editor |
Dedicated Web-Editor - YOUYou are probably the most important part of the web page. Your dedication will keep the information fresh and on the edge of technology. Your dedication to the website will highly contribute to your chapter as the main source of chapter information, recruitment tool, chapter communicator and just a cool place for information. |
Content, Content, ContentLike in the world of real estate where "Location, Location, Location" is the slogan, web page design has it's won slogan, "Content, Content, Content." Content must be fresh, it must be updated and it should vary enough for every member. Your content should draw members with pictures of projects and events. It should draw potential members with activites. It should draw the public, in general, with aviation related information. |
Rely on others for pictures and storiesYou don't have to do it all yourself. Rely on other to provide you with pictures of events. You can't be everywhere. Rely on others for articles, and take suggestions on how to improve the page. Have the Membership Coordinator proved an online roster. Have the Secretary provide the meeting minutes. Have the Treasurer provide a monthly financial report. The Newsletter editor can become your best friend. Share information and work together to bring material to both print and digital format. |
Take pictures at eventsPurchase an inexpensive digital camera and take pictures at events or have others send you pictures from events. Print journalists say that a picture is worth 1000 words and that applies to a web page too. People like to see pictures of themselves and the internet lets us share those pictures with people that can't be at the events. Young Eagles events provide the best photo opportunities. Since most chapter events are public events, you don't need written permission to post the photos on line, but when children are involved, it doesn't hurt to ask the parents ahead of time. Most are very excited to have their children's pictures on line. |
Keep your site updated!!One of the most important duties of a Web Editor is to keep the information updated. There is nothing worse than looking for Chapter meeting information and read about the upcoming March meeting when it's July! Keep calendars updated and events updated. The internet is more immediate than the newsletter so chapter members will begin to rely on it for up to the minute information. |
