Safety Through Education

Our normal safety column writer is at Sun N Fun gathering new information. He’s probably having a great time at it too. He asked me to tell you about the great FAA seminar coming up at Parks College on April 18, 1999. This is the time of the year that everyone is cleaning out their garage, basement and hangar. What we have to remember is to clean out our airplanes also. The winter varmints had time to build their nests in every nook and cranny imaginable. The fuel vents and pitot tubes can have spider nests. The holes in the fairings, around tail surfaces for instance, is a perfect entrance for our feathery little flying friends to make their nests. Of course mice get in by making their own holes. It’s probably a good idea to check you airplane from spinner to tail light if you haven’t flown it for awhile.

The Safety Seminar coming up at Parks College is about pre-flighting your engine. The FAA poses several problems that can occur and they have you try to solve them. This could be a very interesting learning experience if you can make it. There is a pancake breakfast at 7:00 A.M. put on by the locals, and the Seminar is to start at 9:00 A.M. The location at Parks is Hangar 8. Maybe a car pool can be put together!!!
