Today we mowed again, whole yard 3.5 hours. Fred or someone has started to finish another wall in the conference room. Laura,Paul, Gerry, Joe and I started to clean up for the St Charles Smartt field open house. Its gonna be the 12th of June and I understand the YE mafia will be flying Kidgets. We started to move the fork lift today. Wanted it at a different place for the open house. Long story short it ran out of propane in a very short time. I removed the tank, it is setting on the floor behind the fork. Could someone, maybe Ted knows where, get the tank filled or partly filled. Its currently in front of the front door. There is another tank but it too is very empty. No you cannot pus it, is way too heavy we tied once with a bunch of people. Beautful day at the ARC.

Saturday at the ARC. Today we mowed (dah) the yard. Gas is getting expensive! Gale,Jerry,Ray,Paul,Al L and Ron W. fixed stuff. The leak in the lades room is gone, bet you dident know we had one. We have some new donations. You gotta come out to the ARC to see them! There are 60 brots defrosting for tomorrows meeting. Hope everyone can make it out. Should be a good one.

Today we mowed the entire yard. Takes 3.5 hr not counting any little interrupts. Ray trimmed everything the mower couldn't cut. How went the YE's?
Ernie
5/15/04

Ok, where do I start. Today Ray and I were at the ARC. Others were everywhere else. I mowed the rest of the yard with the Murry Mower. Ray trimmed everything he could find to trim. There was another mower setting out back with yellow stuff in the front and a sign not to use. Ted came by later and explained what had happened. He then started it up and drove around front. We removed the front end sheet metal, and found that the muffler was split and had been burning the collected grease and grass off the front end of the mower. New muffler and we
will have that mower in good shape. Darn good thing we had the fire extinguisher handy as it was starting to burn the gas line. Someone please report on the YE event. I understand Joe S. and Gale have stories to tell also.

Another great rainy day at the ARC. The work continues, I agree with the Cozy  Mafia, Life is just one big arts and crafts project! Yesterday we were artful with sheet metal and wood, then craftly went to lunch. Much artful B.S. and crafty story telling. A excellent time was had by all. Saturday at the airport, what could be better, if the weather improves maybe we will get in some flying and grass cutting.
Ernie

Saturday it rained and rained rai....
The scouts showed up anyway. Hopefully George or someone involved will give a detailed account. The YE Mafia was ready for all takers but the weather won, no flying. We had our first serious accident this morning. Paul was searching up in the loft. As he climbed down the ladder slid out from under him and he fell to the floor. As I saw him last he was at lunch and had walked to there on his own. Please lets be careful. Aviation has its dangers but ladders can also do great harm. Lunch meeting tommorrow, come on down, there are 60 brots defrosted in the
frig.

Pleasant day at the ARC. Small turn out today. Part of lawn cut, needs cut before next meeting. Propane grill checked out and found to have no problems other than needs a match to light. Propane bottle near full. Band saw was going together when I left. Saw a flight of 3 RV-4's in formation! Beautiful day to fool around at the airport. Come on down.

Today Joe Sargent and N738S made their first flight together. 10:11 this am took off from 36 at Smartt and flew for 22 Min. Good landing, no leaks or other squacks. Joe had the RV Grin. He said it was uneventful everything he tried was easy, stalls stright ahead, no roll trim needed in cruise. Saw 150 indicated in pattern before he reduced power. Whole thing looked good from the ground. Congratulations Joe!!! Laura, Paul and Fred started painting the walls in the conference room. The duct work is gone from the hanger-hanger. But before the area can be used to store anything there is a need to cleanup the rest of the mess. Turning out that the ducts only took about half of the space. A large amount of white styrofoam and a large stack of 2 ft *4 ft ceiling tile remain. Plus assorted junk.
4/10/04

Today was another great day at the ARC. The Ol'Buzzards Room is almost ready for  paint. There is a lot less junk, I mean other man's treasures, than there was this morning. Fred, Paul, Gerry and I had fun. Its grass cutting time folks, we have three riding mowers available, no waiting! Come on down and enjoy some outdoor riding.
ernie b
4/3/04

Today we reinstalled the window screen in the conference room. The floor is swept and the chairs are up for the meeting tomorrow. See Ya'll tomorrow.

Well Spring is here and today we turned on the water. The bathrooms are operational, both passed tests. Good turnout today, we discussed the moving of the storage building (the Box) to a more permanent location. This will require somethng of a small foundation. Also there is a lot of stuff in the box that needs a new home. Anyone having left ladders tools etc for our use it would be nice if we could empty the box. The lawn mowers and other maintance things will go in after the move. Joe S says he is nearly ready for the FAA inspection. His weight and balance looked good and his airplane is a little under the factory advertised weights! Spring also brings up the grass. Next weekend will be the first use of the lawnmowers. Ted and Gerry have them ready to go, so we will need help all summer and fall to drive the mowers. Last year the lawn was cut on the average of once a week. Nice way to spend some time, cutting grass and watching the airport.

Success, sort of. Today we moved Joe's RV-9A from the ARC. The move to the Chapter hangers went well. We had not planned on the large number of aircraft operations on Saturday Morning. Mini Van you are number 3 for the active behind the Yellow RV amd the big red Pickup. I dont know how to say the next part so here goes. There are 720 ways to stuff 6 airplanes into two hangers. Joes airplane would just fit but not in a way conducive to working on it and operating some of the others. Joe elected to move into the C&D hanger. Thanks to the folks who came out to help! Joe,Fred,Ray,Rich,Gary J,Gary H, Jerry,Bob and I had fun today. Ps, the lights in the kitchen work but we need 8 more bulbs.
ernie b
3/13/04

RV'ers, There is a very nice example of an RV-9A going together at the ARC. Sarg. Joe is almost ready to run the engine. All he needs is a gate and gas. Prop went on today, dont delay. Today Fred finished the ceiling in the kitchen, Laura added the blinds on the windows. Spring is here. Ted is looking for volunteers to mow the lawn. Great way to wile away a couple hours and work on your tan. Oh, by-the-way the outside Christmas lights and the tree are still up. Someone want to spend a little time and store away the Christmas stuff till next year?
ernie
3/06/04

Today we helped Mr. Sargent put the wings on his RV-9A. The ARC is a very nice place to work on airplanes. There were seven of us involved and several visitors stopped by. The airplane has about a 28 ft. wing span and it really fits well in the building. Looks like 4 of them would fit. Laura we need some pictures on the home page, its a real neat visual. Everyone had a good time. 91% done 89% to go. Come on out and see what our chapter has accomplished.
ernie

Where did February go. Tomorrow is the meeting! Today we did some little stuff. Paul ran the shopvac all day. I dont know how many times he emptied it but the area behind the block wall (formely called the conference room) is much cleaner than it was. The ceiling tile is almost all installed. The lightes are lit so we could see the dirt. Gene from OZ put in the window sills today, man it looks like real room. Anybody want a forklift! Bet Joe Sarg. sleeps well tonight. The Mustang guys were busy also.
ernie
Ps. Need a new name for the room by the kitchen, the old one is obsolete. Maybe we should call it the "Homebuilt Room"
2/21/04

Well Rich E and I made it out to the first sat. of the month breakfast at kilroys. We had fun, missed you all. Anyway the ARC is still there. Harry was out sometime this week. The conference room walls are in good shape, ready for final color coat. Ceiling lights are ready to install. Maybe we will get a break in the weather. Next week will be better, come on out.
2/7/04

Cold day today. Several other events today cut down on the workers but we managed to make a little progress. Almost finished the insulation in the conference room. Worked on the heater ducts for the rooms. The Mustang guys were busy. The building is set up for the meeting tomorrow. Hope the weather cooperates!
ernie
1/24/04

Everything was wet outside, but, we were dry and warm. Today we continued on the  conference room and kitchen ceiling and the wires for ceiling lights. The mustang folks worked on their H.stab. Lively discussion about most everything. Come on down and join in. Winter is a good time for indoor work.
ernie b
1/17/04

Good times continue, the Saturday bunch was in rare form today. We worked on  the suspended ceiling and Harry worked on the walls. When I left several of the guys were hanging the first light fixtures in the conference room. We may finish this sucker after all. Come on down, we have something for everyone, just watching counts.
ernie

First work Sat. of the new year was a good one. If we had been better prepared today would have been a record day. Workers were everywhere. Stan, Laura, Bob J.,Rich E.,Joe S.,Mike W., Paul, Fred, Gene, Don J., Gary G.,Harry R, Ray K.and Amanda. Wonder who I forgot, Sorry. We also had several visitors but I did not get any names. The heat duct vents were installed and the conference room ceiling edge hardware was installed. Lights for the conference room and kitchen were tested and fixed. The suspended ceiling stuff was sorted out and painted. Progress on the Mustang and a few more finished parts for the RV-9. Somewhere in there we ate lunch. Come on out, join the fun.
Ernie
1/3/04
ps If you want to work on the ceiling during the week give me a e-mail or call so I can explain the piles of stuff we made of the hardware. Its all there just not obvious as to what goes where.

Today Joe S. began the final assembly of his RV-9 in the ARC. Its nice to be able to work indoors, electricity and light readily available. Stan and the gang worked on the heat ducts for the conference room. Kilroys is closed untill
sometime after new years so lunch was sparce. Come on out and enjoy some indoor airplane stuff at the ARC.
Ernie B
12/27/03

Five days left till Christmas, where did this year go. Today was kind of an event at the ARC. Joe S brought his finished and painted wings out, the fuselage is comming soon. He will be the first to use the ARC for one of its designated uses. Joe is going to assemble his RV in the building then move to one of the chapter hangers. Go Joe!
There were several folks working on the mustang project, Gale showed up for lunch another unusual event in it self. Remember next week kilroys is closed for the holidays so if you come out no kilroys. OK guys we have a building not quite finished inside but useable for lots of things, see ya out there.

12/20/03

Short day today, snow kept everyone away. Stan, Fred & I checked the bathrooms for freezing, they hadent. Fred & I left Stan went to buy two small heaters to keep bathroom pipes warm. Spring is just around the corner!
ernie b
12/13/03

The ARC is as clean as it can get! Today the Tribe of Worker ELFS descended on the ARC and cleaned, moved and decorated. The new tables and chairs are setup and ready to go. Also the low voltage lights are hooked up and working for the sign by the road. The heat ducts were moved to warm the hanger space. The party is next weekend, come on down and celebrate our second year in the ARC.
ernie b
11/29/03

Surprise Today: I was working under the misunderstanding that the decorating for the Christmas party would be later in the month. No so, this morning Al Donaldson and a large crew of Al's ELFS (I wont even try to name them all, but grumpy and Doc were there) showed up and proceeded to put up the Christmas lights. Thanks for the surprise.

Other activitys, KZ spent all day planting around the sign out front. Carla and Laura painted the bathrooms a nice color. Paul, Ray and I put the John back in the ladies room. Jerry and Don worked on the Mustang. Stan had to do his real job today so we didn't see him but we missed him.

Altogether a good day at the Ol'ARC. Thanks Everyone.
Ernie B.

Dave Doherty hanging the lights Paul, installing the toilet
Vince Morris and Al Donaldson, fixing some table legs.

Another nice day at the ARC. Good turn out today, we had about ten folks wanting to do stuff (including 1/2 of the Cozy builders group of two). Progress in the kitchen finishing department, and misc other things. The sign out front looks super, we have a good image, very professional looking. Some progress being made on the Mustang project. Christmas party in a few short weeks, come on down. Its nice to be inside, warm, with running water and all the electricity and light you could want. The ARC is a nice place for airplanes folks.
ernie b
11/8/03

ANOTHER good day. Today we ran more electricals, Stan put up soffit around ducts in the kitchen. Laura sealed the tile in the Ladies bathroom. KZ installed 5 fire extinguishers in the building. The Mustang Guys were working on something important, they were real quiet most of the day. Paul was giving everyone a
hand. Rich E stopped by for lunch. Altogether not a bad day. Come on down, Christmas is just around the corner.
ernie b
11/1/03

Saturday was a good day. The conference room walls are electrified. The ceiling lights are next. The walls are almost ready for paint. The building does not leak, it was water tested this morning. Good things continue to be done and we can always use help. Meeting tomorrow!

10/25/03

Another Beautiful day at the Hanger beside Smartt Field. A litle slow today as the airport was celebrating 100 years of flight. So guess what we did, looked at airplanes. There was some progress as we have started to run the electricals for the conference room and the kitchen. The wire is already in the walls we only need to bring the power from the braker box to the rooms. Laura or someone grouted the tile inthe ladies room this week and also planted some flowers out by the sign. Place looks better all the time, come on out and enjoy the weather. (Also am I wrong but cant any member fly YE's any time they want, do you need a formal day?)
ernie b
10/18/03

Stuff be gone! Ted B. can explain. We also have a large amount of very nice topsoil around the new sign courtesy of Ted and our across the street neighbors. 3 or 4 folks working on the Mustang project today. Lots of activity with bathroom floors. Laura and Stan and Doug worked all day grouting and gluing tile and trimming a steel door. Gene was busy with the kitchen finish work, Ray, Paul and I messed with the lights and electriciy for the conference room. Al Lowe your desk is still in the ARC.
Come on out, see the ARC.
ernie
10/11/03

"ANOTHER" work day at the ARC. Beautiful day, fall is here. Lots of things going on. KZ is finishing up the Sign Planting with a flower bed around he base. Stan and Laura worked on the ceramic tile floor in the mens room. Ladies room next! Joe, Paul and I worked on little details. Dave D was around helping but spent most of the day giving rides in his RV. He ran a one man Old Eagles today, think he flew about 7 members. Guys were working on the Mustang project but I dident keep track of what was happening. Nice time of year to mow but sombody, Ted maybe, beat me too it so. Soon time to start working for the Christmas party not many weeks left.
Ernie B
10/4/03

Beautiful day, lots of activity on airport and inside the ARC. Good turnout today,we worked mostly on the future kitchen and conference room areas. Walls, mud, trim stuff and more mud. 90% to go but it is slowly comming together.
ernie b
9/27/03

Stan and company worked on framing the beams with dry wall and framing the west wall of the kitchen.

9/13/03

Today was a good day for the ARC. Stan brought out a tractor and regraded the north end of the building for the ramp and taxi way. He then spread the rock coat and rlled it smooth. After a little more work it will be ready for the black top. Several of us cleaned and sealed the east 1/2 of the floor. KZ removed the old sign by the road and installed the frame for our new lighted sign. Major cleanup was started for the YE event next week. Ted mowed lawn and brought out another riding lawn mower for the chapter.(thanks Ted).
ernie

9/6/03

Stan an I spent some time today at the ARC. The building is water proof! It was tested today. Stan hung drywall in the kitchen area, I moved stuff to the west wall in preparation of sealing the other half of the floor. Volunteers are needed next saturday to scrub the floor and apply the sealer. The following week is a YE event. The sealer will need a couple of days to cure so do the math. There is currently so much stuff in the ARC, you have to see it to believe it. Help is needed!
ernie b

9/1/03

Hey gang, we had a fairly productive day at the arc. I hadn't planed on being there but, things changed with the rain. I was able to get to the building by 11:30 am. Ernie, Joe S., and Jerry were busy cleaning up. Ted B. and I
worked in the conference room. We installed the wiring and insulated the wall. It is now ready to dry wall. If anybody is looking for something to do at the building, they can move all remaining stuff from the right side of the room to the left side. Then the floor will be ready for cleaning and sealing. I may try to get out to the building Monday.
Stan C.

8/31/03

More sheet rock went up in the conference room. The kitchen wall is now framed and ready for sheet rock.

We unloaded 2 trailers of stuff for Mr. Hamm. All kinds of desks and shelves. More will be picked up on Tuesday by yours truly and Ron Wright.

Dry wall has been installed...
...and seems patch
Kitchen framed.

Good day at the ARC. The mower is fixed. Stan put about 3 welding rods of repair into the deck. We even sharpened the blades! Put it back together and the sucker runs great.( till next time something breaks) Good turnout today about 9 folks for most of the day. The conference room walls are almost finished. The dry wall went up today, the kitchen is next. KZ came by and delivered the frame for the sign in front of the building. First class job of welded aluminum. Dave D. brought his RV and gave Stan and I a ride (one at a time). Altogether a good day, come on down.

Dry wall going up
Framing the steel

The framing went well today. We started the morning out by cleaning up the conference room and putting most of the stuff up on the balcony. Next, we installed the wiring and insulation on the East and south walls. We are now ready for the dry wall to be put up. The weather was just wonderful today. With a cool breeze and a few clouds you could work in comfort. Ted Pappas (county building inspector) was kind enough to come over and ask if I would like to go for an airplane ride. Of course I said yes. We flew up and down the Mississippi River for half an hour as we enjoyed the scenery. I did feel guilty for leaving the guys working. Not. Anyway it was a good day at the ARC for me. I hope everybody else did enjoy the fellowship.
8/9/03

Stan Crocker

Today was a lawn mowing day for me. Stan and the boys( 2 of us) worked on the 220V line for a welder and started to finish the conference room. Another beautiful day.

OK Its official (we think) The building has been passed by the inspector, we are occupiable. We took down the building permit and washed the window. Stan has worked very hard to make this happen, and here it is.
Also today Joe and Bob finished the ceiling in the ladies room, the floor on the west side the hanger was sealed. More may have happened but I had to leave early so missed the afternoon activity.

I have to say I was impressed with the sheet metal workshop today at the ARC. I hope all involved will write a little something to "crow" about the workshop. All the hard work on the building is made worth while when you see 30 adults totally immersed in an technical airplane topic. I dont think it would have happened without the ARC. A little work was also done on the building. The floor for the storage area is going together. Next week is Young Eagles Day at the ARC, come on out and see our Chapter Home.

Addng the floor beams

Gene working hard, honestly!

Preparing the support beam

Another good day at the ol'ARC. There was some activity on the airport. B-25 flew, DC-3 taxied around, motor glider visited and at one point there were 9 transient light planes in front of the ARC. Not all of the folks who parked came to visit but we seem to be attracting attention. The WELL hookup is comming along and will be done soon. Want it to be done correctly first time as digging up anything is not easy. We could sell ARC clay for structural adhesive. (fund raiser?) Between the airport mowers and our guys the lawn was mowed. See Ya at the meeting tomorrow.B^)

The well has been dug.

The center beam for the second floor balcony has been placed.

Another saturday at the ARC. Not much flying today, the wind was blowing. Ms. Laura has been checked out on the riding mower. She soloed today and Stan signed her off. The second floor is going in over the conference room. The well pump works. Some more improvements have been made to the existing wiring. Tom painted the Chapter 32 signs. Last but not least Mr.Jude has installed the last
of the down spouts.

Sounds like the YE guys had fun today, good job. The weather at Smartt was no better, there a a couple of anonyms pilots tied down at Smartt!( no names from me). When we arrived this morning Stan had already dug most of the ditch for the well pipe. The well will soon be working. The other event of today, Rich E our friendly neighborhood Carrier Air guy, brought out equipment to erect the beam for the confrence room ceiling /loft floor. We dont have to fall over that thing any more. Bob J spent a lot of time and effort getting the last piece of rain gutter ready to go on the building. All together a good day at the ARC.
ernie
5/17/03

Thanks to Alden Van Winkle for sending in these photos of the MODOT building that was dissassembled by our crew in July 1999 and reassebled as the ARC. Building does look familar.

Not sure what to expect, but it was still there. Today was slow with the weather and the YE at spirit. Today both bathrooms were wired for lights and exhaust fans. The fork lift got a new or rebuilt starter motor. The well diggers were out and we have a 50 foot deep well hole. The water ran clear after the sand was pumped out. Now we need to install our pump and run the pipe from the well to the building. Any and all shovelers will be welcome to attend the digging of the well ditch. How about a YE report, wonder if anything did happen as the weather has been very non-aviator friendly.
Ernie b
5/11/03

Note From Stan:

Ernie, we got the lights and the exhaust fans wired in the bathrooms. The well drillers got the well finished. It had to go to 50 feet. Gary Kirk put the starter on the fork lift. It still won't start but, Gary is working on
it. I talked with county inspector this week and he is aware we are using the building. I think it is time we finished the second floor. I plan on setting the H-beam next Saturday if I have enough people. Then we can put up the floor joist and flooring. Good news is that the price of lumber is down now. Now that we have the well dug. We can start planing on what it will take to get water to the building. The county inspector said we need water in the building so he can check that it works. I hope I can find lots of ditch diggers in the chapter to dig the water line to the building. (Just kidding.) Randy and Christie (The lady Kozy builders.) have offer the use of their backhoe. I would like to take them up on that offer. We should have plenty to do at the ARC this week end. I know we have a YE event but I don't think this will effect the work on the ARC. See you all next weekend.

Stan Crocker

Today was a little slow for the ARC as the Young Eagles Flyers were out flying. Stan and Joe put the fans and vents in the bathrooms. Several of us (me) cleaned house. If you cant find something keep looking!! The CAF was very active today. We were treated to a TBM demo. The were practicing landing and low passes. The goonie bird ran both engines as did the B-25. Meeting tomorrow 2 PM Local time. See Ya'll then. HOW ABOUT A YE REPORT!
Ernie B

The guys have done it again, a little ingenuity, Bob and Joe, and the downspouts are on the building. Used up the old material from the original building. They made their own brackets. The east side of the building has a new feature, Doug has mounted the EAA 32 letters on the side of the building. Looks good, anyone flying in should be able to find the building. Started to mow but the mower broke a belt, Jerry working on the fix.
ernie b
4/19/03

Today the gutters were started on the front (toward the road) side of the building. Improved the visual 100%, nice finish line. Dave D did take part of the day off from his RV project to help! Paul S. was mowing the yard for the first time. We did more electrical stuff inside and Laure did stuff with the young eagle stuff. Lots of the regulars went to "lack-land" for Fun. See ya next week at the ARC. ernie b

The gutters are hung on the front of the building. Finished, complete, done. Looking GoooD.
Bob Jude

4/5/03

Hanging the Gutters

We had so much fun last week the building volunteers did it again today. Almost all of the debris from the building process is gone. Stan's trailer was piled full, but it is gone. Someone need a bomb cart, we have two. The gutter downspouts have been reworked and as soon as the wind lets up they will go on the building. The full indicator for the holding tank is ready to install. The electrical wiring continues. The bathrooms are ready for water. The lawn mower was moved to the building. Lawn mowing is a good way to improve your tan! The fun continues! Come on down, dont miss this part.
ernie b

Where were we last year?

March 31, 2002
Inside, looking south.
Notice, lack of roof and only part of the concrete done.
March 29, 2003
Inside, working on installing electrical outlets
on the walls

Once again the volunteers were hard at it. The gutters have been painted and are ready to install. Any gutter installers please come forward. Finished wiring the EXIT signs. Painted another coat of paint in the bathrooms. A large effort was put in to cleanup the exterior. If anyone can use some kindling please feel free to help your self, there should also be a stack of wood ready for the fireplace.( we cannot burn anything outside). Stan has good news about the holding tank, we will be able to use it with a minor mod. Doug K was erecting the big EAA 32 sign on the airport side of the building when I left. Lots of little stuff happened but too many to mention. Darn nice day with doors open and wind blowing spring air thru the building.
ernie b
3/22/03

Today was another very progressive day at the ARC. Stan ordered a load of rock as promised it showed up about 7 AM. The regular gang plus Tom S. and Rick G spent most of the day moving rock around. Also the header going into the conference room was finished. The wall next to the bathroom was modified to accept the beam for the conference room ceiling. The furnace was elevated to 24 inches above the floor. Two of the three required EXIT signs were installed and wired. There is now a "Path of Dreams" walkway from the ARC to the gate onto the ramp. The roof gutters are clean streight and ready for paint. We also noted that the average age of the regular crew who are bring the ARC together is apx. 60 years. So if you arn't to old and creekie come on down and pitch in.( there are apx.eight folks on a regular basis)

Ernie B.
Ps we dont need any more good ideas we need physical help!!

3/15/03

WOW- we did some stuff today. The chapter project airplane is now in the ARC. We have airplane! Gale is going to show us what to do,so in addition to building building we will be building airplane. Today the rain gutters from the old building were cleaned ready to paint and install. A way to support the gutters has been devised using stuff we already own. Laura & Amanda painted inside the bathrooms. Everything is comming together for the conference room. It is so nice to have enough light inside and lots of electricity. Come on out and see what we are up to at the ARC.

I think today was a first. Rich E. seems to be the first to bring a new airplane part to the ARC for analysis. RV elevator horn and support structure. We pushed pulled and poked. Could not fix the sucker so he is going to contact some of Ya'll RV8TORS for a peek at yours. Anyway that is the first real part and solution discussion in my memory. (which is faulty) It was nice to do airplaney things in our building. Who will be next??? Meeting next week at the ARC, warm ,indoors and our own lights. Neat!!

Saturday was kind of quiet. We had a good turn out for breakfast and lunch. We even did a little work on the building. The electricity details are moving along. Laura was out getting stuff ready for the young eagles season which starts next week? Sounds like the YE folks are going to need lots of help as they have an agressive schedule. Who will be first to finish their airplane in our new building.

Today was a slow day at the ARC. The space shuttle news came as the day started. Needless to say the loss got our attention. Next week we will proceed.

Nice day at the airport. Electricity is a wonderful thing. Having our own lights, just throw a switch and you can see to work. Plug in the tools and they work, every time. Today Joe and Bob added more plywood to the roof center section, soon to be complete. Come to the meeting and Stan will relate the excellent inspection we were given by the county. Almost everything passed, one small hickup to fix. See ya'll tomorrow, 2 pm at the ARC.

It was cold outside, but we did lots of work inside the ARC. Steve M. has been busy wiring up our new electrical power. We now have installed some of the light fixtures from the "old" building, three banks of lights each bank is a row running in the north south direction and controlled by a switch. Each row is made up of six fixtures each fixture holds four. 48in bulbs. We have good light inside the hanger! The hanger door is wired in with a control on the wall by the door. Lights are also over the kitchen area and the conference room. Come on out and see our building. Meeting next Sunday, 26th. Stan will have the building warm for the meeting, maybe not as warm as the night of the Christmas party.

The BIG! news we have our own electrical pole transformer and it works. There is electricity of our own in the building. Mr Bob and Co. have insulated the peak of the roof. Looks good to everyone. We sorted thru some of the stuff currently stored in the ARC. Laura seperated the food cooking things from the Young Eagel things. We have a large amount of things. Suggestions for how to control the stuff were a topic of discussion. We all agreed there is a need to keep the stuff together in one place but not in a pile on the floor. We had several visitors today, one brought us a stack of info about modifying VW engines for aircraft use. Come on out an help, we are having fun!

The soda is safe, sort of. Rich Emery took it home to live in his front room for the winter. Thanks Rich. Today we started some of the next work on the inside. Stan tried out his foam cutting hot wire thing. Industral size and quality, Rutan would die laughing but it works good enough. We had a small crowd at Kilroys for lunch. Folks are stopping by to say hi and have lunch. Some even talk a little airplane. The ARC is starting to become a focus of chapter activity. Lots of sport pilot discussion.

First the good news, UE delivered our new pole and transformer today. The pole is lying on the ground. They will be back "soon"to put it up and run the wires. Now the other news. During the course of sweeping up we discovered a colony of mice. They were moving in amongst the collection of charcoal, plates, cooking stuff etc. Stan and I moved everything from the back room that resembled mouse food or housing supplies. The stuff is now on two tables on the center of the building. There is a large stack of stuff, most of it is still ok but I think it needs some attention. Also we have about 15 cases of soda that really need to be somewhere warm for the winter. Volunteers here is a chance to help, or give a case or two of soda a warm home for the winter.

Electric has been approved and waiting for AmeranUE to place the poll. Some painting was done today, as well as the last of the left over cinder blocks were removed. Heater was installed prior to the Holiday party and was a great asset early in the morning until the outside temperature warmed up. Lots more to do.
12/28/02

The place looks great, can't believe how far we have come since last year. Today was cleanup day. The floor got scrubbed, comments were made as to the size of the floor. Its bigger than it looks! Doors on bathrooms are hung and water tested. Party next week. Good Job to all the elfs, thanks.
Ernie B.
12/7/02

More detail work on the bathrooms and little things for the Christmas party. A group of Eaa32 ELFS showed up today to put up decorations. There are about a bzillion little lights around the ARC outside and a like number inside. The FAA may have to step into this and have the hours of use controlled. We could be a distraction to landing aircraft. The bathrooms are getting close to useable. Water will be available for the party but the hookup will be temporary. Lots to due come on out and help.
ernie b
11/30/02

We have some heat in the ARC, we have two more furnaces to install! Today everyone was busy. Some insulated, the upper insulation is close to complete, the hanger door insulation is going well. The side walls are short one panel. The bathrooms are getting close to finishing. Meeting tomorrow so come on out. Cold ones can sit close to the fire, warm ones further away. Come on out and see your building folks, soon be ready for some airplane activity.

Last week wood was cut to make wall panels. Time ran out and the panels were not put together. Gale went out on Tuesday to assemble the panels. Majic happened. the panels were made up already!! EAA Elfs never sleep. Today was another day of intense work on many details. I know that Al L. almost installed his furnace. Stan is working on bathrooms. Joe,Bob others continue to insulate. Paul was busy helping everyone and cleaning up our left over material. Ray and I were hanging wall panels. There was some old music playing and a pot of coffee. Nice way to spend a fall Saturday. Come see our building grow.

90% to go. Today we worked on bathrooms, calking, insulation and landscaping. Ray K spent the day outside filling the holes made when the backfill over the holding tank sunk. Heck of a job! The east wall is almost all insulated. Bob may be about caulked out. The building should be warm for the Christmas party! We had something new happen today. Visitors came with children looking for airplane rides. I dont think anyone there working knew them. It was way too windy to fly kids and I don't think we had any current pilots available. But word seems to be spreading. Also a lot of traffic on grafton ferry road from the new ferry.
ernie b
11/9/02

Today was something new, the work is becoming smaller jobs that can be finished in one day. The floor of the loft storage area was added over the johns. The plumbing fixtures were retreieved from the other hanger and positioned. The insulation was added to the east wall above the perlion (sp). Several folks brought kerosene heaters and the building was warm enough most of us removed our coats. There was a large turn out today, it was nice to have lots of help.

11/2/02

The block walls are almost done! When I left they were short six blocks of finshing the concrete block part of the interior walls. Bob J. calked every thing he could find, the building may now be able to float. The first of the wall panels were installed. The ol'hanger is starting to look like something useable.
ernie b

10/26/02

Progress continues, the interior walls are almost up and the insulation of the building walls continues. Doug was playing spark chaser, and strung a bunch of lights. We could now work in the dark if we had to but there will be light for the Party. Meeting next weekend so come on down and see what is happening.

ernie b

10/19/02

Today was different. The first members project not part of building the building got into gear today. Our meeting chairs needed painting and rust cleaning. Today a gaggle of folks swept down on the north end of the building and sanded chairs. I counted eleven busy sanders, not sure how many helped but it was impressive. How can we get these guys to help with the building.

The block layers (block heads?) added some more blocks to the room walls and some little progress was made on the insulation. We are having the Christmas Party at the ARC. We need everyone who can to come on down and help make sure the chapter meets our goal.
ernie b

10/12/02

The interior block walls continue to gain altitude. Only thing slowing down the block layers is the cure time on the morter. Note you cant put too much water in the morter! Also applies to nuclear reactors. Fall is great time to be outside, lots of guys flying and some wishing they were. Come on down!! ernie b
10/5/02

Where has the summer gone. The interior walls are moving right along. We think they are about 50% complete. The plumbing is in good shape, and the painting continues. Best outdoor weather of the year. See ya next week at the nonfloating ARC.
ern b

9/28/02

What do you call a bunch of guyes making block walls? We have a bunch of them in the chapter! The fun continues, the lessons are working the guys are making real progress. We also saw some neat flying machines today and got buzzed by something fast. Come on down there is work for all.

ern b
9/22/02

Today was really neat! Interior walls were started, Block laying class and basic morter mixing,on one side and advanced plumbing on the other side. Outside the Ozark folks were busy with their party. The young eagles were flying. Many really good old airplanes and some new ones. We also got a RC model airplane show including heliocopter aerobatics. Enough for one day for me. I hope someone will step up here with a young eagle report, I cannot report on it as I was busy most of the time. But did hear they flew about 27 kids and I guess a few "Old Buzzards" and no I did not get a flight (ha).
ernie b
9/14/02

Another beautiful day at the field. We did a bunch if little stuff today. Getting ready to add interior walls for the johns and conference room. Allen says he is holding wall building class next week. So if you can already lay bricks come on out and hassel if not come out and learn something new. The ozark folks are having there yearly get together so there will be lots interesting things going on.

The siding is going on the east side and the lower half of the hanger door. The big news today is the hanger door moved under its own power. No hitches slips sparks or anything bad. It went up and down just like a real hanger door should. We should be proud of our door. Now we need some real electricity in the building to connect to the door. Stan used his generator to power the door today. But his generator will not be powerful enough to light the inside of the building and run the door and the other stuff we want. Tom B. has been busy painting. Structure inside and the exterior access doors. The door color looks like a match of the EAA blue you see at Oshkosh. Come on out and help or just visit. Folks its our hanger and it belongs to every member. The big external work is nearing completion. Lots of stuff to do, come on down.
8/10/02

Progress today, more siding added to east wall. East side will soon be sided. The mechanical stuff was added to the hanger door (I don't know what an ARC door looks like). All the cables, pullies, seal and motor are ready for electricity. Work was started on the insulation for the west wall. Painting of the interior structural steel was started. All together good day at Smartt field. Come on out and help, we have lots of jobs for someone to do.
ernie b
8/3/02

Another nice day at the Smartt field. We did some siding and worked on the hanger door opener. Lots of good Oshkosh stories from the guys who have already returned. Come on out and help us grow the building.
ernie b
7/27/02

Taking advantage of a gift horse. Today we finished hooking up the holding tank and putting a lot of the dirt back in the hole. Ever see a wrench big enough to open one of these tank vents. Stan made one and we used the back hoe to turn it. You don't get to do this stuff every day. Oh well tomorrow I go back to the office.
Ernie b
7/21/02

Another interesting day at the building. Stan is full of surprise, today he had our holding tank and a backhoe. Ask Stan where all this came from. He dug a big hole, we put concrete in the bottom, added some cable and dropped the tank into place. This doesn't sound too bad, but the tank is 5 ft in dia and 14 ft long and weighs maybe 1000 lbs. Chuck K. provided the tank. We also poured a entrance pad at the front of the building. One of our Ed's showed up with a sign he made for us. We liked it so much we volunteered him to make another. This is in addition to what KZ took on at the last meeting. Another great day. Lots of airplanes stopped for fuel at Smartt on the way to Oshkosh. If you don't go to the convention next week stop by on Saturday.
ern b
7/20/02

Another day of progress. The weather was super, we finished siding the west wall and prepared the east side for siding. Also started the process to construct concrete ramps for the entry doors. Filled in a bunch of holes around the yard.
Ernie B
7/13/02

Another good day, the wind was a helper today. I was hot but not too hot. The fixed part of the north wall is sided (part above the hanger door). The west wall lacks 7 panels, 14 feet. We are getting pretty good at siding.

OK The roof is on the building. Off to a slow start this morning. Seems there was some kind of a RV thing at Jeff City. But the roof is roofed. The walls are next, A few of us will try to work on the 4th of July the next real work day is next Saturday. Thanks to all who have helped with the roof, it really is a milestone for the building. Who will be first to use the building for airplane work? Or the next young eagle event?
ernie b

Hey guys,

Thanks to Gary, Dave, Ernie, for your help on the ARC today. I know it was awfully hot to work today but, we did accomplish a few things. Gary and Dave got the West roll up door working. Ernie and I got some insulation and one piece of metal around the first window on the West side of the building. Thanks again fellows. This was a very productive weekend for both Young Eagle flyers and ARC builders.

Thanks,

Stan Crocker

We missed it by "this much". We almost finished the east side of the roof today. But we ran out of foam tape. DARN the bad luck.
Thanks to all, we got a lot done again today. Had a couple of perspective members and a couple of members who found time today to help. The Young Eagles also were very active today. I heard they flew about a 100+kids. How about a report from them. Lots of activity on the airport. Boy scouts camped out and there was a wheel up landing by somebody. No body was hurt!
ernie b

6/8/02

Another good turn out today. The grounds are starting to look presentable. A bunch of stuff is gone and the remaining stuff has been sorted and repiled. The grass was cut again (there is no end to this cutting grass). And the next to last floor pad was poured today. Next week is young eagles. Come on down and enjoy the building, the B.S. and the airplanes. We had a good look at a Cessna 206 on floats, one of our members brought it around so we could see how real aorplane guys work on brakes.(:-))
ernie b

To work group,
My hat is off to the entire group that worked at the ARC this past weekend. Job well done people. Next week end is Young Eagles so we won't pour concrete. We will work on the roof and siding. Wear long pants if you plan to be on the roof or the hot metal will burn you and the flies will bite. Right Joe? I may have some days off this week. If any body has time off this week give me a call, or E-mail me. The scrap lumber was burned at the farm this Sunday.
Thanks,
Stan Crocker
6/1/02

Holy Cow, I can't say enough. Today was a real treat at the Arc. Your chapter in action. We mowed, broke up a ton of bad concrete, formed floor with rebar in place for the next pour, put up siding on the west side and added some more roof. We also had some perspective new members show up. This is what it is all about folks, thank you all. Next week concrete floor and more of the other stuff too. See you at the meeting tomorrow, 2pm at the almost ARC.
Ernie b
5/25/02

Another good day at the ARC. The guys roofed today and we are now 1/2 done with the roof. Water has receded, some left in fields but we dodged a bullet. I hate MUD! Its only a matter of hard work and we will close up the building. By the way it appears that we are now responsible for the mowing of our own grass. So anyone wanting to help can cut grass at the ARC. The ground will soon be dry, sunshine, mower and airplanes! What could be better. Come on down.
ernie b.
5/18/02

The big hanger doors are hung. Two new persprective members came totalk and one helped hang the doors. The yard around the building hashad its first mowing. We have a meeting at the ARC next Sunday at 2PM.We will roof some more next Saturday, 8 am till we quit. If you can only come out for a short while come on out, no experiencenecessary. ernie b
5/19/02

I have been gone for a few weeks and missed the meeting. The ARC looks good to me as a start of our building. All we have to do is finish it. Saturdays are not always good days for everyone to come work on the building, things need done at home and sometimes we need to work at work. But we really do need to finish this project. The building will be an asset to us all and a first for chapter 32. The worst is over, we know how to roof and do siding, come on out and help finish our building. Saturday mornings we start at 8 and usually work all day. Come when you can and stay as long as you can. No prior experience required. The building will be a real asset to the chapter!!
Ernie B

We did some rooooofffing today. This was a very good day for the building. Roofing is progressing better than expected. We also watched a B-25 shoot touch and goes and a TBM chased him around the pattern. Some of the guys are going out tomorrow to install roof cap. The cap will mark the completion of about 20% of the building exterior. Maybe the next meeting will be held in our building in progress. We should have 40% of the exterior finished buy then. Come one and all to see the progress and/or to help.Saturday mornings 8am till we quit come on down.
ernie b
4/13/02

As advertized today the exterior and roof of the building is 40% complete. Th visibility was low and it rained a little but we made our goal. Concrete next week so come on out and help. Come to the next meeting and see it for yourself, we are going to have a building of our own.
ernie b
4/20/02

Saturday was a good day, thanks to all who helped. We had a good turnout!! South wall is complete with trim in place. A slightly different tactic was tried on the roof and it worked. We added new roof panels in 1/2 the time of the original panels. Having a lot of good help was nice. Next week, weather permitting we will roof some more. 8 am till we finish for the day, daylight saving time is here, RooF roof ROof.
ernie b.
4/6/02

Work continued, the east wall is as complete as it will be for a while. The roofing is next with a few trim details on the south side to finish. Come on out the weather is just about prefect. See picture, looking east from inside. Also Stan our Prez has been working during the week so maybe a call to Stan will help progress.

Sat was another good work day at the ARC. Progress was made on the east wall. We also had a couple of new faces out to help. Welcome all. Next week the east wall and then roofing.

Ernie b

This was a good work week for the building guys. Wednesday and Saturday were work days this week. The south wall and the first 1/4 of the west wall are on the building. The first 1/4 east wall is next. Then we will add roof to catch up to the sides. Good job by all who helped. Come on out and see our building growing. Come out and help, Saturdays 8 am til dark or so.
ernie b

The wind put an end to progress today. But we had a good session at Kilroys. Some of the guys will try again tomorrow. So if you can come on out and look or help if you can. Starting on the west wall tomorrow.
ernie b 3/9/02

The siding has been delivered and one piece is in place. Work continues every Saturday, weather permitting. 2/23/02

Saturday was a good day at the field. All the windows are installed, all the doors are hung. The first half of the siding was picked up and is at the building. Next week if all goes well the siding installation will begin and the roofing will continue. We are making progress, any bets on where the Christmas party will be held in 2002? ern b.
2/19/02

The south end is ready for siding. We have three doors and four windows installed and are ready for siding. It was a little windy today but we got quite a bit of work done anyway. Come on out and see our building grow! ernie b 2/9/02

I guess the Super Bowl got a lot of our attention this weekend. The siding is ready to pick up and the insulation for the side walls is being ordered. Between the roof and the walls we should be busy for a while. Come on out and help. 8:30 till ? almost every Saturday. The building is going to be our place at Smartt. ernie b.

2/2/02

What a day to work out side. I took my coat off for most of the fternoon. Another door is in place and the base angles are fastened to the floor. I guess we will be getting siding soon. Lots of flying and another gyrocopter in the neighborhood. Stay tuned for next week- weather permitttng. ernie b
